HOLIDAY SERVICE PROJECT/PARTIES 2019

Please help us support LHUMC and our local community through our annual Holiday Service Project/Parties. LHUMC, in ministry to local homes and apartments, puts on holiday parties each year in December for Audelia Manor, The New Room and Hidden Ridge (new this year). See the flyers here and here for more info (don’t worry that they say only “Boy” — this is for girls too!!) Troop 890 Scouts help put together care baskets and put on parties for adults and children in these communities. Each Scout will have a role to play in this project. It costs our Troop over $1,000 each year to cover the expenses associated with this project. This year, in keeping with principles of patch festivity and fiscal responsibility, we offer you the opportunity to help us cover our costs for a small donation of $25. Each donation of $25 will earn you a special, one-of-a-kind, numbered Happy Holidays Patch, specially designed for the Scouts (and other patch aficionados) in the Boys Troop and Girls Troop. To make your donation, please click here.

Details for the Service Project and Parties:

  1. All Scouts — this includes First Years, Second Years, etc., boys and girls — MUST deliver their goods to the Fellowship Hall at LHUMC on Saturday, Dec. 14th between 8-9 am.

  2. Required goods:

    1. All Scouts should bring 1 dozen homemade cookies of any flavor. Please do homemade cookies.

    2. Each Scout should bring fruit as follows:

      a. First Years (Biancardi) should bring 6 red apples

      b. Second Years (Nicodemus) should bring 6 green apples

      c. Third Years (Boone) and up (4th, 5th, 6th) should bring 6 yellow apples

  3. All First Years should report to LHUMC no later than 9 am on 12/14 for assembly of care packages. This will take (likely) no more than 2 hours to complete, and then these Scouts will be released for the day. Class B unis are fine, and holiday bling is encouraged!!

  4. All non-First Years should report to LHUMC no later than 12:00 pm in Class As with any holiday bling you wish (Santa hats, Christmas tree light necklaces, use your imagination…). The Scouts will be instructed on what their responsibilities will be at the 3 parties, and then depart for the parties by 1-1:15 pm (all parties are in the greater LH area). [We will need some parents to help carpool and herd Scouts, so please stick around to help if you can.] The parties should be finished and Scouts back at LHUMC around 3:30 - 4 pm.

  5. A few Scouts will be selected to help with some minor food prep at 2 of the parties, mostly hot dog grilling.

Scouts who cannot participate due to actual conflicts MUST email Mr. Allen at scoutmaster@troop890.org to let the Scoutmaster know of your conflict. We still need your goods even if you can’t come. PARENTS: please do NOT do the email yourself - have your Scout do it himself or learn how to send an email.
